Summertime… the season that most of us look forward to the most. It is also the season where most of our habits get tossed out. Summer vacations, road trips, weekends away, mid-week happy hour on a friends patio, bbq’s, etc. can all get in the way of your usual routine. This is why I like to change up my routine for the season. In fact, I change up my routine every season!

Each season brings about change (change in skin and hair, change of wardrobe, change of energy and emotions, etc.). Summer is the season of brighter mornings, warmer afternoons and lighter evenings. Summer is the time where we loosen up and live a little easier. Summer is the time where we’re more inclined to say yes to going out instead of staying in. It is the time where we get excited to pack a suit case and head out on a road trip to some place new. It is also a time for a more active yet relaxed routine. This is a time where I am personally spending less time in my at home spiritual practices and spending more time playing outdoors and reading fun vacation novels. Below are a few habits I am adding into my routine this summer:

Reading

This is the time of the year when we want to wind down on the lawn and read a good book in the middle of a Saturday (as opposed to catching up on Netflix). Do you remember going to the library with a list of summer reading books from school? This is a great idea for adults too (only you get to choose the book list). Create a summer reading list to finish by the end of the summer! I also love curling up with a book at night during the summer. Below are a few books on my summer reading list!

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah (I just started this and it is so good!)
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (I just purchased this for my summer honeymoon)
To Sir, With Love by Lauren Layne
The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary
The Light After War by Anita Abriel
People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
Rock The Boat by Beck Dorey- Stein
The Book Of Lost And Found by Lucy Foley
The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve

Moisturize

Summer is the time where we get the most sun exposure. We are also exposed to high temperatures, chlorine, salt water, etc. All of those elements can leave our skin and hair feeling extremely dry. This is the time of year when we should really focus on moisturizing! I love lathering up in coconut oil (I love this one here) after a shower at night. I also love doing a deep moisture mask on my skin like this one here!

Start A summer journal

I recently just purchased this journal to start writing summer poetry and other free writing. I love jotting down a few thoughts on the summer weekends or summer nights. This doesn’t have to be a diary, but more of a place you can go to write down your daily thoughts (things you love, things you want to do this summer, summer playlist, etc.). I am always inspired to write by the magazine Bella Grace!

Eat seasonally

Summer is full of fresh and beautifying fruits and vegetables! I love to head to the farmers market to pick fresh summer squash and stone fruits. The farmers market is a fabulous way to eat sustainably and to eat seasonally. It is also a great way to discover new fruits and vegetables. Check out the recipe for my Stone Fruit Salad With Orange Lime Dressing here.

Explore

I used to head out every weekend during the summer to explore the city or other areas. This is not only a fun activity but also an active one. It gets you out walking and moving! It is also a great way to practice being in the present moment!

Get active

Summertime is the season where we have the most energy. The days are longer and we have more time and energy to get active. Try a new and fun workout or take your workout outside on a run! This is also a great time of year to try new activities. This summer Bobby and I decided to try and make time for tennis and kayaking. Find activities that you and your family or friends love that get you outdoors and moving your body!
