I Am In My 30’s And These Are 5 Things I Do Daily For Healthier Skin

I never gave much thought to my skin when I was in my young 20’s. As I’ve gotten older and have started noticing the effects of sun damage, fine lines starting to appear, and other signs of aging, I have become diligent about my skin care routine and what I choose to put into my body. There is no way to stop yourself from aging, however there are things you can do to prevent pre-mature aging as well as give yourself beautiful, glowing and healthier skin while you do. Here are 5 things I do daily for healthier skin:

add in chia seeds daily

Chia seeds are a powerhouse of nutrition. These little seeds are packed with fiber and omega 3’s which are essential for skin health. When it comes to your skin health, a healthy gut is necessary. This is why adding in more fibrous foods like chia seeds can be helpful. Chia seeds have been known to have a direct effect on the healthy bacteria in the gut which makes them a great option to add to your diet. Plus they contain omega 3 fatty acids which are known to have a positive impact on a healthy complexion. They are easy to add to your routine. You can easily add a tablespoon to your morning smoothies for a fiber boost.

avoid sugary beverages and focus on water in take

Sugar is skins enemy. If you find yourself getting breakouts or notice dull skin after consuming sugar often then you may want to start limiting how much you allow into your diet. Sugar can have a direct effect on the health of your skin. This is why it is important to avoid or limit sugary beverages. Sweetened beverages are often sweetened even more than some desserts. One 12 oz can of coke has 39 grams of sugar (almost 8 teaspoons of sugar!). If you want glowing, radiant skin then it’s best to skip those sweetened beverages and start upping your water intake. Water is your skins best friend. When you start drinking more water you will notice a big difference in the health of your skin. If you want to enjoy a sweet drink once in a while, just add some fruit to your waters or sparkling water for a little flavor and sweetness.

eat your vitamin c

I recommend always having Vitamin C rich foods like oranges, kiwi, bell peppers, broccoli, lemons, etc. on hand. Vitamin C is so important for your skin health as it can help to prevent against sun damage and give you a brighter complexion. The health of your skin starts with what you do from the inside out. When you start eating Vitamin C rich foods you will begin to notice healthier, brighter and more glowing skin. Try out my favorite Malibu Mango Smoothie here that is packed with Vitamin C and hydrating foods.

vitamin c skin care

What you put on your skin matters. It doesn’t have to be expensive or be a top of the line product, but it should be effective. I recommend using a Vitamin C serum. Vitamin C serums help to brighten your skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots. It is something simple you can add to your morning and nightly routine that can help t give you healthy skin. I personally love this serum here as well as this Vitamin C rich eye cream.

prioritize more sleep

Sleep is your skins other best friend. You may have noticed a big difference in your skin after getting a great nights sleep versus a bad night sleep. Lack of of sleep can cause dry skin, puffiness, pre-mature wrinkles and fine lines. Plus when you are lacking sleep, your body turns on your hunger hormone which can often be the reason for reaching for sugary foods and beverages after a bad sleep. Those choices on top of a bad sleep can affect your skin. Always aim to get at least 7-9 hours (preferably 8-10 if possible) of sleep per night. You will notice a difference in your skin health after consistently getting a good snooze.
