Wedding Beauty Prep

We are officially under 50 days til the wedding day (as of this writing). I am starting to get very excited and I am realizing that it is time to start the beauty prep. While I won’t be changing much to my routine, I will be more efficient and stricter about my routine.

Hair prep:

Nothing is going to change too much with my hair routine but I will be adding in a overnight coconut oil mask once a week (the day before sheet washing day lol). I haven’t been coloring my hair often in order to grow it longer and healthier, so before the wedding I will make sure to get a fresh color! The products that I use in my hair to keep it healthy are OWAY Moisturizing Hair Bath, OWAY Moisturizing Hair Mask, Innersense Sweet Spirit Leave In Conditioner and OWAY Nurturing Drops.

Nail prep:

Something that I have been told recently is that a nail tech is not a magician, so you cannot expect him/her to perfect your nails in one day. If your nails are a mess, I would start going in for weekly treatments to begin getting them ready for your big day (cuticle and nail shape maintenance). Something that I will also be doing is applying a balm on my hands at night. This will help keep hands moisturized (there is most likely going to be some close ups of your new ring, so having moisturized hands is a plus!). This is the balm that I will be applying to my cuticles and hands every night before bed (it is the best beauty item I have ever bought and it is under $10). I also use it on my heels at night before bed to keep my feet moisturized. You can use it on any dry spots like elbows and knees (which is a good idea if you plan on getting a spray tan, just don’t use it the day of your spray tan appointment or the spray won’t stick)

Body care:

My main goal is for my skin to look healthy and moisturized. I am going to be applying coconut oil to my body twice a day to keep my skin hydrated. I will also be exfoliating with this sugar scrub a few times a week to exfoliate dead/dry skin cells. I will also be dry brushing daily before showering to exfoliate and improve circulation.

SKin Care:

The #1 thing that I am going to be doing for my skin is not add in any new products. I am sure this is something that we have all learned by now, but it takes time for your skin to get used to or show signs of irritation to a new product (which can lead to breakouts and skin rashes). At 90 days out I stopped adding in any new beauty products. Check out the list of clean beauty products that I use on my skin here.

The second thing I am doing for my skin is exfoliating often. I use this gentle exfoliant on my skin 3 times per week. This helps to increase circulation in the skin and shed away any dead or dry skin cells.

Next, I will be staying hydrated. I am aiming to drink half my body weight in ounces of water to stay hydrated from the inside out. I am also using ultra hydrating products on my skin. I am using this antioxidant facial oil on my skin every night. It contains argan oil which has been helping to keep my skin hydrated. My makeup artist recommended using an oil the day of the wedding to help my skin achieve a more radiant glow. The facial oil that I will be using is this one here (which Laura Dern used as her foundation while filming Big Little Lies).

I will also be using a reparative serum like this one here. This helps to heal damaged skin and improve the tone and texture of the skin.

Another thing that I will be doing are moisture eye patches. I am trying to do these once a week to help with puffiness (I will also be applying them on the morning of my wedding day). I love these ones here. I like to keep them in the fridge to keep them cold. When I am ready, I will apply them to under my eyes and then apply an ice cold facial roller like this one here on top. I gently roll the facial roller back and forth over the eye patches to help improve hydration and combat puffiness.

Another important tool is a lip balm. I love this one here. This will help keep your lips moisturized so you don’t have to worry about lipstick getting stuck in the dry creases on your big day. I recommend a lip balm with a natural oil base. I also love doing a lip exfoliant with sugar and coconut oil. Just mix 1 part coconut oil with 1 part pure sugar, scrub over lips and rinse. I also love to apply just coconut oil on my lips at night.

I will also be implementing Gua Sha as much as I can to help relax my facial muscles and improve circulation. For more about Gua Sha and why I will be adding it to my routine, click here.

Another important tool is to get adequate sleep! Sleep deprivation will show up in your skin! Get in a good nights sleep the few nights before your big day! The night before the day, I will be taking a magnesium supplement and a melatonin supplement to help me fall asleep easier (the pre-wedding jitters have already kicked in out of excitement so I know I will have trouble falling asleep the night before so I am doing anything to help me sleep better)

Finally, my supplements! I will be taking my two favorite supplements from Hum Nutrition: Red Carpet and Mighty Night. Together these supplements help achieve radiant skin from the inside out.

Beauty Don’ts

  • Don’t pick or pop blemishes the day or week of the wedding. If you are prone to breakouts, visit with a facialist a few weeks prior to discuss a skin care plan.

  • Don’t switch up your beauty routine the month of the wedding. Wait till after the wedding to try anything new (you don’t know how your skin will react to anything new)

  • Don’t over indulge on sugar, caffeine and alcohol. All of these things can leave your skin feeling and looking dull and prone to breakouts. Instead of coffee or espresso, try matcha for a low caffeinated option. Instead of sugary treats, try eating fresh fruit. Instead of alcohol, drink water!
