Tips For Creating A Nutrition Plan

One of the biggest parts of any wellness journey is nutrition. While it doesn’t make up 100% of your health, there is truly nothing that can replace a healthy diet. Having a healthy diet is one of the most important ingredients to reaching your health and wellness goals and for feeling energized and overall better.

When creating a meal plan there are a lot of elements to consider and a major one being lifestyle. Everyone has a different lifestyle and a different genetic make up, making it essential to follow a nutrition plan specifically designed for you. This is something we cover in my health and wellness coaching programs.

Throughout my wellness coaching practice I have found a few key things that are essential when creating a nutrition plan:

focus on macronutrients

While the quantity of each macronutrient differs with every person because of lifestyle and body type, the type of macronutrients you eat is the same. We all need protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates for our health. These 3 things should be part of every meal and they are what makes a meal balanced. A simple example of a meal would be a serving of avocado, baked tofu and broccoli with sweet potato.

more whole foods

More whole foods and less packaged foods is key. Packaged foods are typically processed in some way to its best to keep them minimal. Focus on creating meals and snacks utilizing foods in their whole form.  When creating your nutrition plan make sure it it packed with whole fruits, vegetables, grains, greens, nuts and seeds. These are the foods that will leave you feeling good and the foods that will help you reach your goals.

balance

If your plan is too strict, if it leaves you feeling deprived, if it doesn’t fit into your lifestyle or if it’s not doable or maintainable then it’s not going to work.  Any nutrition plan needs balance. If you aren’t making room for your favorite foods and you are restricting yourself from them then you won’t be able to maintain your plan which in turn will prevent you from reaching your wellness goals. Room for play is going to be key for reaching your goals. This isn’t to say that you can eat whatever you want whenever you want, this is just to say that you need enjoyment to succeed on your journey.

These are some of the topics we cover in my health and wellness coaching program.
