Hot Cocoa

I adore a cup of hot cocoa during the winter. There is something so special about cozying up on the couch watching your old favorite show or movie with a cup of hot cocoa in hand. However there is nothing special about what typical store bought hot cocoa will do for your wellbeing.

In just 1 packet of traditional hot cocoa mix you can expect to find up to 25g of sugar. That is almost 7 teaspoons of sugar! It is recommended that you don’t exceed 25g of sugar a day and there is often just that and in hot cocoa. Sugar can often be the culprit for skin issues, weight gain, brain fog, lack of concentration and focus, sleep issues, moodiness and more. This winter skip the traditional sugary hot cocoa and try my hot cocoa that is naturally sweetened with dates.

This hot cocoa is so easy to make. It is creamy, delicious and sweet without the excess sugar.

I recommend having it as hot cocoa, enjoying ad a cold chocolate milk or add to coffee or matcha for a chocolate kick.

What you need (serves 2):

2 cups water

1/2 cup raw cashews

1/4 cup cacao powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 pitted medjool dates

A pinch of sea salt

1/4-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions: Add all ingredients together in a blender and blend till smooth. Transfer to a saucepan over low medium heat and whisk until warm. Pour into mugs and enjoy!
