Summer Wellness Essentials

There are many reasons to love summer. It’s the time of year when we are saying yes more, taking advantage of the warmer weather by getting outdoors, feeling more adventurous. And for a lot of us it’s a time where we’re more excited about moving our bodies more and focusing on home cooking more with all of the in season produce at the farmers market and also maybe even taking care of ourselves more. This is a great time of year to begin new habits and get moving and I have the perfect essentials to add into your routine to make it easier and more exciting:

sunscreen

I heard the best skin care tip for your 50’s is sunscreen in your 20’s and 30’s. I’ll admit that I don’t think that far ahead into the future but since I noticed signs of sun damage on my skin the past couple of years I am starting to think ahead. I didn’t wear a lot of sunscreen regularly in my 20’s (big regrets there) but now in my 30s you will rarely catch me without it. I use one for my face and one for my body. I love using this sunscreen here on my face as a daily sunscreen. It glides on, goes on clear, doesn’t leak into your eyes (making it perfect for summer runs and walks) and it can act like a primer under makeup. If I want to do a “no makeup, makeup look” I will wear this one here. It gives off the perfect glow and protects your skin from sun damage. It’s perfect to wear during the day when you don’t want to wear makeup that you’ll sweat through but still want a little something on your skin to make you glow.  I have been loving this body sunscreen this summer. It smells so good and it glides on easy without any mess. If you only have a few minutes in the morning before you run out the door I recommend making sure you at least get your face, chest and shoulders as these tend to get the wrath of the sun the most.

a good hat

I am now and forever a hat person. It helps to block the sun from your face and protects your scalp. I love this hat here for outdoor walks and other workouts. I also love this bucket hat here for when you are out and about- perfect for farmers market trips!

items from the sea

This is something that not a lot of people are talking about, but the sea provides us with so many beautifying properties.  Things like algae, kelp and salt can benefit your body in so many ways. Kelp and algae are known to remove heavy metals and other toxins from the body and improve brain health, skin health and more when ingested. When they are applied topically to the skin they can help revitalize and hydrate the skin as well as even protect against the sun and sun damage. Salt when applied topically can help exfoliate the skin and improve skin health. When salt is ingested is can promote a healthy ph balance in the body. My favorite products are:

Sun Potions Chlorella Powder- perfect to mix into smoothies or juices

KOS spirulina powder- perfect to mix into smoothies, juices and chia seed pudding. Tap here for my Live Well Guide To Healthy Meal Prep that includes an amazing chia seed pudding parfait using spirulina with a homemade 15 minute granola recipe.

Kelp Granules- this is perfect to easily toss into a meal. It’s like a low sodium salt alternative. I sprinkle this on mine and my babies meals for a little detox boost!

Seaweed chips- I love seaweed chips. They’re the perfect light and salty snack you will crave plus they have so many incredible benefits for you and your body.

Undaria Algae Body Oil- this smells and feels amazing on the skin

This shampoo and conditioner set is non toxic and includes algae, salt and sea weed in their products.

Ocean Cleanser- it is seaweed infused! It gently exfoliates and hydrates!

Atmosphere Protection Cream- seaweed infused!  It is so moisturizing!

Red Algae Clarifying Mask- it’s a detox for your skin.

I Create Waves sea salt spray for your hair- this is to help give you a beachy look no matter where you live!

trackers

This is a great time of year to start getting into movement habits and hydration habits. Creating habits often takes utilizing reminders. I love using trackers as reminders. For hydration I love using this tracker water bottle here. It helps to hold you accountable with written time reminders right on the bottle. Its the perfect tool to help you begin to drink more water. I also love using my apple watch to help me get moving. I don’t obsess over how many steps I get in or how many minutes I worked out for but I love having a gentle reminder like a tracker that allows me to see just how much I am moving my body. If my steps are unusually low then I will make sure to get in a workout later or go for a walk. Tracking your progress can make a huge impact on your journey.

hydration essentials

The more you sweat the more you need to replenish. I add electrolytes to my waters all day especially during summer when I am sweating more. It is so important to replenish your electrolytes after sweating from your workout, sweating at night during sleep and even just the normal perspiration. I love using these electrolyte packets in my water. They taste amazing, which helps you drink more, and they are an easy habit to start. I also love sprinkling in a pinch of celtic sea salt as well.
